• Main power supply lines in underground coal mines and metal/non-metal mines.
• Connect high-voltage substations to sectional distribution centers or load centers.
• Provide power for high-voltage continuous miners, longwall shearers, and other heavy mining equipment.
• Often used with cable connectors (plugs and sockets) to facilitate easy connection and disconnection operations.

Why is “GC” (Grounded Concentric) so important?

This is the primary safety characteristic distinguishing mine power supply feeder cables:

• Redundancy and Reliability: It provides a highly reliable, low-impedance grounding path. In the event of a fault (e.g., sheath cut, power conductor shorted to ground), this concentric conductor will draw the fault current back to the power source, causing the protective circuit breaker to trip almost instantly.
• Physical Protection: It acts as a shield, providing the first line of defense for the insulated conductors within. If the cable is crushed or impacted, the concentric grounding layer absorbs most of the damage, protecting the critical phase conductors.
• Explosion Mitigation: In the event of a severe internal fault causing an arc flash, the concentric grounding wrap effectively controls the blast wave and pressure within the cable structure, enhancing the safety of nearby personnel.
